Having two voltages and two heating elements, we can have as many as eight different amounts of heat produced by the same unit, depending on how the elements are wired to the different voltages. These different amounts of heat are possible by switching in and out the different voltages and the different resistances with the desirable controllers.
A oven thermostat is used for controlling the temperature in an electric oven. These thermostats are generally of the fluid-filled type rather than the bimetal type. In this type of oven thermostat the fluid expands with an increase in temperature and causes a set of contacts to open or close, depending on the temperature inside the oven. A selector switch offers a choice between upper and lower oven heating elements (either the bake position or the broil position) or the use of both heating elements (preheat), but the same thermostat controls the temperature whether the oven switch is in the bake position or the broil position. The wattage rating of these heating elements is 2000 and 3000 watts when energized with a continuous supply of 240 volts.
